FOMS Menu 155 (Load Flight Schedule Program)

This program allows you to enter the flying schedule for the effective dates for any given flight. Flight information stored within this program's data file is automatically downloaded to the Flight Status file every day, a number of days in advance of the actual flight day.

Note: Care should be taken to ensure that the information entered is accurate: it is easier to make corrections once here than it is to make amendments every day in the Flight Status record.

When the program is called, an empty schedule record will be displayed.

The modes available are:

  • Add

  • Edit

  • Delete

  • Video

  • Screen

  • Hardcopy

  • Quit

Add Mode

This mode is used to add flight schedules

Note: The departure and arrival airports must already exist in the Airports data file in all cases.

Field

Description

Flight Number

Enter the number of the flight you want to add. Any combination of one to four alphanumeric characters is acceptable.

Airline Code

Enter the 3-letter Airline designator code. This will default to your own Airline code if you simply press <Enter>.

Sked/Non-Sked (S/N)

Enter either <S> for Scheduled flight or <N> for non-scheduled flights.

Local/Zulu

Enter the desired time mode for the flight schedule, local <L> or Zulu <Z>.

Effective From-To

Enter the effective schedule start date and end date for this flight, using numerical input in your standard format. The To date may not be earlier than the From date.

Orig/Dest ICAO-IATA

Enter the Airport codes for the Origin and Destination. ICAO, IATA, or FAA codes may be entered. The alternative codes will be retrieved and displayed in the appropriate fields.

Flt Day (MTWTFSS)

Enter the days of the week that this flight is scheduled to operate using numerical entries to represent the days of the week from Monday <1> to Sunday <7>. Days may be entered out of sequence, and it is not necessary to provide spaces.

Example: If a flight operates on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, you can enter <513>. The program will rearrange the numbers and position them under the appropriate headers as soon as you press <Enter>.

CD (Code)

This entry indicates whether the schedule is to be weekly <A>, biweekly <B>, or bimonthly <C>. The default value is A.

Time Dept-Arr

Enter the scheduled departure and arrival times for this flight in Zulu time (i.e., GMT or UTC time.) The arrival time may not precede the departure time. If the flight spans midnight Zulu, then the program will assume that the arrival time is on the following day. In all cases, a check is made to ensure that the times entered imply neither a block time less than 10 minutes, nor greater than 16 hours.

Equip

Enter the type of aircraft that will be used for this flight. The <?> Search function is available for this selection.

Pax

This is a display-only field that will show the maximum number of passenger seats recorded in the Aircraft Type file for the selected Equipment.

D/I

Enter either <D> or <I> to denote whether this is a domestic or international flight. This designation will control whether bonded or non-bonded fuel prices are used in the calculation of potential tankerage savings.

  1. The cursor will automatically position itself on the next line, fill in the next From date to be the same as the line above.

Note: If you continue by pressing <Enter>, the program will also copy the previous To date, and the destination from the previous line will become the Origin for the new line.

  1. You may change the effective dates or the origin if you want.

Example: You may want to enter a summer (daylight saving time) schedule and a winter (standard time) schedule on a leg by leg basis, so every other leg would have a different effective range, but the same origin and destination.

  1. You may also want to indicate that the flight operates at different hours on different days, for example, a flight may depart at 1000Z on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, but at 1500Z on Tuesday and Saturday. This program will accept these types of entries.

  2. If you do not want to continue entering more legs, then you can escape to a confirmation prompt by entering <Ctrl>-E.

  3. The cursor must be on the Effective From field when you exit otherwise the program will return error messages related to mandatory fields.

  4. A positive response to the Information OK? (Y/N or Q-no change) prompt will save the schedule, and return the cursor to the Flight Number field for entry of the next schedule.

  5. You may continue by entering a new flight number, or press <Enter> or the up arrow to exit to the Command Line.

Edit Mode

  1. Enter the flight number and the airline code for the flight schedule you want to edit. The record will be retrieved and displayed, and the cursor will be positioned on the Sked/Non-Sked field ready for editing.

  2. You may edit any of the fields in the usual manner. The down arrow key will permit you to move the cursor from line to line, whereas the <Enter> key will move the cursor from field to field across a line. A new line may be inserted by using <CtrI>-I. This will open a blank line immediately above the line on which the cursor was positioned when you entered <Ctrl>-I. A line of schedule may similarly be deleted using <Ctrl>-D.

  3. When you have made all of the edits you want, you may exit to a confirmation prompt by using <Ctrl>-E.

Delete Mode

This mode is only used if you want to delete the entire schedule for a particular flight number. If you want to delete just one or more legs from a flight, you should use the <Ctrl>-E function within the Edit mode.

To delete an entire schedule for a particular flight number:

  1. Enter the flight number, and the airline code.

  2. The record will be displayed, along with a Really DELETE? (Y/N) prompt.

  3. If this is the correct schedule to be deleted, enter <Y>. Entering <N> will preserve the record, clear the screen, and reposition the cursor on the Flight Number field for entry of another flight number.

Video Mode

This mode will allow you to view the flight schedule record for one flight number at a time.

  1. Enter the Flight Number and Airline code for the schedule you want to view. If it can be found it will be displayed on screen, otherwise a Record Not Found - Press <Enter> for NEXT AVAILABLE prompt will be returned.

  2. Pressing <Enter> will cause the next record in the data file to be displayed (records are stored in numeric order of flight number, sub-sorted by airline code.

  3. You may use the up and down arrow keys to scroll through the file from record to record.

  4. Pressing <Enter> will clear the current record, and reposition the cursor for entry of a new flight number.

  5. You may escape to a Command Line prompt either by entering <Q>, or by pressing the up arrow on a blank Flight Number field.

Screen Mode

Entering <S> from the Command Line will call up the Screen report mode.

Field

Description

TYPE OF REPORT (N/D/O)

Enter the Type of report that you want generated. Your choices are reports selected by flight number <N>, flight day <D>, or by airport of origin <O>. Depending on your entry here, the cursor will move to the appropriate selection field below.

FLIGHT NUMBER From/To

Enter the range of flight numbers that you want to see reported. The default values are 0 and 9999. The report will be sorted by flight number, and sub-sorted by airline code, and departure time.

FLIGHT DAY

Enter the flight day of the week, (or days) that you want to see flights reported. Enter numbers from 1-7 to correspond with days from Monday to Sunday.

Note: Only those flights that are scheduled to operate on the day or days selected will be reported.

FLIGHT ORIGIN From/To

Enter the ICAO identifiers for the range of origin Airports that you want reported. This will permit you to select all flights that depart from a given country (e.g., entering CY to CYZZ will report all flights originating in Canada) or narrow it down to one particular location (e.g., KJFK to KJFK will produce a report showing only those flights originating from Kennedy International in New York).

Note: IATA codes should not be used in these fields as they will not be converted to ICAO codes, but rather will be treated as the first three characters of an ICAO code. If this occurs, strange reports will be the result.

Hardcopy Mode

Hardcopy mode functions in the same manner as Screen mode, with the exception that the report is sent to the printer and that hence you do not have the ability to terminate the report in mid-stream.

Quit Mode

Entering <Q> from the Command Line will return the Next PROGRAM-NUMBER prompt so that you have the option of going directly to your next program if you know the menu number, or of returning to the previous menu if you simply press <Enter> .

Note: The following descriptions represent the typical access and privileges afforded to users designated as Dispatch Managers/Supervisors. Users with dispatcher privileges will have limited access to a subset of the screens presented.
