When an airport is not in the suitability database, it is considered either suitable or unsuitable based on the behavior (inclusive or exclusive).
Behavior options of Airport Suitability
There are two specific behavior options:
1. INCLUSIVE: All stations are considered unsuitable unless made suitable in the suitability database. This option is more labor intensive as users have to enter more airports in the database to make them suitable.
2. EXCLUSIVE: All stations are considered suitable unless made unsuitable in the suitability database. This option only requires users to enter stations that are unsuitable.
Note: The behavior options are controlled by settings within the customer’s main parm file. See below for settings.
IMPORTANT Note for Support & SRM team
INCLUSIVE: The main parameter file requires the following settings
SUITABILITY: Orig=N Dest=N Emerg=N ReDest=N ReAltn=N Etp=N Etops=N Altn=N TAltn=N ReportError=Y/N
EXCLUSIVE: all fields will be flagged as opposite using ‘Y’.
SUITABILITY: Orig=Y Dest=Y Emerg=Y ReDest=Y ReAltn=Y Etp=Y Etops=Y Altn=Y TAltn=Y ReportError=Y/N
Note: ReportERROR appears when the customer is given suitability as a warning or error. However, there is no need to toggle it Y/N in the main parameter file as it is now controlled in the Airline Code Parameters setting menu.
IMPORTANT
If an airport is entered in the suitability database and made suitable, N-FP will not check for runway length, surface, or ACN/PCN criteria as it is in the database as suitable. It will do the following:
- Select New and enter airport ICAO/IATA code. The airport name will appear.
- For multi-ALC customers, enter the airline code which will be impacted by this addition. De-select checkboxes for criteria that would make the the airport unsuitable.
Example: CYYZ is unsuitable as an ETP or an ETOPS alternate for all aircraft. Since no specific Fin, Equipment, or Series has been entered, thus all flights attempting to use CYYZ as an ETP or an ETOPS alternate will fail suitability checks.
Using FOMS 122, the user must enter Y (yes = suitable) or N (no = unsuitable) for DEFAULT and if required, specific FIN, Type, or Series.
Suitability criteria
Airport suitability checks look at the following criteria to ensure an airport is suitable. If any of these criteria are not met, airport will be unsuitable.
- Minimum runway length entered in aircraft characteristics.
- Runway surface type entered in aircraft characteristics and cross-referenced with the Airports database.
- Aircraft charcteristics ACN vs. PCN values from Airports and runways databases. Note: These checks will not be observed by N-FP if airport is suitable in the database. Airports Runways
- Weather criteria entered in the Airline Code parameters.
