1       Introduction 

Alert Configurations 

In this topic we will review the Alert configurations available in the Maintenance User Interface. 

We estimate that this will take 10 minutes to complete.

2       Detailed Explanation 

Alert Profile Configuration

This training will detail the End User configuration options for Alert Profiles.

 

This will include:

        Weather Profile

        NOTAM Profile

        Sigmets Profile

        Flight Progress Profile

        Flight Event Profile 

Weather Alert Profile Configuration

Weather Alert Profiles are used to configure how and when the system processes Weather Alerts, when they are triggered and reported.

ORIG: Alerts affecting the origin.

DEST: Alerts affecting the destination.

DALT: Alerts affecting the destination alternate.

TALT: Alerts affecting the take off alternate.

RDST: Alerts affecting the reclear destination.

RALT: Alerts affecting the reclear alternate.

ETP: Alerts affecting ETP (Equal Time Points)

ETOPS: Alerts affecting ETOPS (Extended Twin-Engine Operations Standards).

EEPEXP: Alerts affecting EEPEXP (ETOPS Entry Points/ETOPS Exit Points).

ENRALT: Alerts affecting the enroute alternate.

START: Enter the base time to start monitoring for alerts.

  Enter the start offset minutes:

    Enter <-> for minutes before base time.


END: Enter the base time to end monitoring for alerts.

  Enter the sign of end offset minutes:

    Enter <-> for minutes before base time.

Profile threshold options:

CEILING: Enter the ceiling threshold in hundreds of feet. Alerts are triggered below this threshold value.

VISIBILITY: Enter the visibility threshold in meters. Alerts are triggered below this threshold value.

TEMPERATURE: Select the operator for the temperature threshold. Operator options are Less Than (<), Less Than or Equal (<=), Greater Than (>), Greater Than or Equal (>=), and equal to (=).

        Enter the sign of the temperature threshold. Signs are plus (+) or minus (-). Enter the temperature threshold in Celsius degrees.

        Alerts are triggered based on the combination of this threshold value, the sign and operator.

 

PROBABILITY: Enter a "PROB" value for inclusion of Probable Forecasts.


WIND: Enter the wind threshold in knots. Alerts are triggered above this threshold value.

 

ALTIMETER: Enter the altimeter threshold in HectoPascals. Alerts are triggered below this threshold value.


DEW POINT: Enter the sign of the dew point threshold. Signs are plus (+) or minus (-). Enter the dew point threshold in Celsius degrees. Alerts are triggered based on the combination of this threshold value and the sign.

 

Forecast exclusion options are available to instruct the system to ignore TAF type GRAD, RAPID, INTER, FM, TEND, BECMG, or TEMPO

The individual alerts can be configured to trigger on specific Sigmet weather elements.

 

Each unique or combined code can be prepended with "-" for "light", or "+" for heavy.

 

Codes can be combined to add qualifications to the phenomena. For example, FZRA is freezing rain.

 

VC can be prepended to any code, or combination of two codes to represent "in the vicinity of".

 

With the exception of the +, -, and VC prefixes, all codes should be 2 or 4 characters.

NOTAM Alert Profile Configuration 

The NOTAM profile is used to configure how and when the system processes NOTAM Alerts, when they are triggered and reported.

A profile can be set up for any or all of the following:

 

ORIG: NOTAMs affecting the origin.

DEST: NOTAMs affecting the destination.

DALT: NOTAMs affecting the destination alternate.

TALT: NOTAMs affecting the take off alternate.

RDST: NOTAMs affecting the reclear destination.

RALT: NOTAMs affecting the reclear alternate.

ETP: NOTAMs affecting ETP

ETOPS: NOTAMs affecting ETOPS.

EEPEXP: NOTAMs affecting EEPEXP.

ENRALT: NOTAMs affecting the enroute alternate.

FIR: NOTAMs affecting a flight information region

 

For each of the desired profiles, users configure a Start and End time threshold for NOTAM reporting alerts.

 

START: Enter the base time to start monitoring for NOTAMs. Enter the sign of start offset minutes: Enter <-> for minutes before base time

 

END: Enter the base time to end monitoring for NOTAMs. Enter the sign of end offset minutes: Enter <-> for minutes before base time.

An alert profile filter can be configured to notify users for new NOTAMs of specific types:

Sigmet Alert Profile Configuration 

The Sigmet profile is used to configure how and when the system processes Sigmet based Alerts, when they are triggered and reported.

The Sigmets profile is used to set up time ranges for Sigmet alerts to be sent.

START: Enter the offset base time to start monitoring for sigmets.

  Enter <-> for minutes before base time.

 

END: Enter the ofset base time to end monitoring for sigmets.

  Enter <-> for minutes before base time.

Flight Progress Alert Profile Configuration 

The Flight Progress profile is used to configure how and when the system processes Flight Progress Alerts, when they are triggered and reported.

 

The Flight Progress profile is used to compare planned values against actual values communicated during the flight.

Enter the waypoint time difference threshold in minutes.  An alert is generated when this threshold is met or exceeded.

Enter the fuel difference threshold.  When the fuel value at a waypoint is below planned by this threshold an alert is generated.

Enter the Departure Delay difference threshold.  An alert is generated if the actual departure delay is above the planned value by this amount.

Selecting the Off Route box will generate an alert whenever the system receives a position report from a point that is not part of the original planned route.

Enter the Flight Level difference threshold, in hundreds of feet.

 

An alert is generated when the difference between actual Flight Level and planned Flight Level meets or exceeds this value.

Enter the waypoint wind difference threshold.

An alert is generated when the actual wind component is above the planned value by this amount.

Enter the arrival delay difference threshold in minutes.

An alert is generated if the actual arrival delay is above the planned value by this amount.

Flight Event Alert Profile Configuration 

The Flight Event profile is used to configure how and when the system processes Flight Event Alerts, when they are triggered and reported.

Error Alerts profile configuration allows a user to decide if the system will generate an alert when the selected action fails to complete successfully.

 

Flight Papers Send - Specify whether or not to generate an alert if the flight paper package failed to send.

 

3rd Party Integration - Specify whether or not to generate an alert if a 3rd Party integration fails.

 

Automation Exception - Specify whether or not to generate an alert if an automation exception occurs.

 

ATC Reject - Specify whether or not to generate an alert if the system receives a rejection from ATC.

 

ACARS Free Text - Specify whether or not to generate an alert if an ACARS free text message is received.

Integration Alerts profile configuration allows a user to configure alerts based on actions from 3rd Party integrated systems.

 

Aircraft Change - Specify whether or not to generate an alert if an integrated system changes an aircraft.

 

Captain Change - Specify whether or not to generate an alert if an integrated system changes an assigned PIC.

 

Pending - Specify whether or not to generate an alert if a pending integration action occurs after ATC Transmission and/or after Flight Plan Transmission.

 

Weight Check - Specify whether or not to generate an alert if a pending Weight input violates any Weight limits.  (Includes fuel weights)

This field allows a user to specify whether or not to generate an alert when a modified User Region applies to an active flight.

This field allows users to configure whether or not an alert is displayed if the payload changes on a computed flight, and to set the threshold for that alert.

This section allows users to set alert profiles which will compare the state of the flight to the time relative to departure.  If the action and time qualifiers are both met, an alert will be generated.  Use <-> for minutes before ETD, or <+> for minutes after ETD.

 

Missing Computer After - Specify a time frame when a computation is expected, if it has not occurred by this time, an alert will be generated.

 

ATC Not Sent By - Specify a time frame when an ATC communication is expected, if it has not occurred by this time, an alert will be generated.

 

Flight Package Not Sent By - Specify a time frame when Flight Package transmission is expected, if it has not occurred by this time, an alert will be generated.

 

ACARS Not Sent By - Specify a time frame when the ACARS Flight Plan transmission is expected, if it has not occurred by this time, an alert will be generated.

 

Unhandled Exception After - Specify a time frame when all exceptions should be handled, if it has not occurred by this time, an alert will be generated.

 

Notify Reclear WPT Arrival By - Specify a time frame, relative to arrival at the Reclear Waypoint, and an alert will be raised at that time on each flight operating with a Reclear.

 

Notify ETOPS Entry By - Specify a time frame, relative to ETOPS Entry, and an alert will be raised at that time on each ETOPS flight.

This section allows a user to set an offset in minutes, before or after the ETD, where MEL/CDL information will be monitored.

Enter a Start and End time, using <-> for prior to ETD, or <+> for after ETD.  The system will monitor MEL/CDLs, during that time, and will generate an Alert if an MEL/CDL with an associated effect is assigned to the aircraft.

(Entering a range prevents the system from raising alerts for flights in the past).)

Include All, will include MEL/CDL items that do not have an associated performance effect.

If not selected, alerts are only generated for MEL/CDLs that have an associated effect type that impacts performance.

The action types provide an option to raise an alert if the MEL/CDL is assigned, edited, or unassigned.  Any combination may be selected.

Custom ETD Based Alerts:

 

Enter a time, based on ETD, and a user defined message to be displayed.

The custom message is displayed at the - number of minutes entered in the time field - before the estimated time of departure.
